Each young opera interpreter looking for success needs to confront with the repertoire of Rossini. This is the reason why this performance by the winners of the Teatro Sperimentale di Spoleto deserves particular attention. On the 150th anniversary of Rossini’s death the concert offers a selection of different genres.
At the beginning are two extracts of works of sacred ispiration: they belong to the latest production of Rossini who soon after the success of William Tell, abandoned the musical theatre for religious and chamber music. Some beloved opera texts will follow, they come from the buffo, serio and semiserio genres: the style is very much bel canto and it is characterized by the homogeneity of the passage from one style to another.  These features are clearly recognizable in Donna Fiorilla, Isabella and Clorinda, the character of Alidoro in Cenerentola is representative of another aspect of the opera buffa by Rossini: the one that gives to the bass the role of deus ex machina. A text from Semiramide closes the concert, the last opera composed for the Italian stages.
