On one side the music from the Czech Republic, on the other the most representative interpreters of that culture. The perfect match between these two elements can be found in the piano recital by the artist Martin Kasík. In the first part of the evening, the musician will perform alongside the “classical” Czech music by Smetana, Martinů, Janáček and Novák a piece by the living composer Zdenek Merta, who is famous for his soundtracks and the long collaboration with the Black Theatre of Prague: Ulice (The roads)- the page on programme- is the underlying principle of a very successful television series in his country. In the second part comes every pianist favourite piece: Pictures of an exhibition by Musorgskij. Composed in 1874, this music represents an ideal tour in the rooms of a paintings exhibition. The original piano version was subsequently adapted for the orchestra by different composers who were struck by its exceptional richness.
Kasík was born in 1976 and is considered one of the most important Czech pianists. He is the winner of many national and international contests and he conquered the attention of the critics by winning the Prague Spring Contest in 1998. He has performed all over the world and he regularly plays with the Czech philharmonic orchestra and the symphonic orchestra of Prague.
