“ALBERTO BURRI PER GRUPPI GIOVANILI DI MUSICA DA CAMERA”
RULES OF THE NATIONAL COMPETITION
Art. 1 – PURPOSE

“Alberto Burri per gruppi giovanili di Musica da Camera” is a national competition promoted by the Festival delle Nazioni of Città di Castello.
It pursues the support of groups of young musicians who wish to show their talent. The competition is organised by Regione dell’Umbria, Comune di Città di Castello and the Lions club of Città di Castello.

Art. 2 – PERIOD OF THE COMPETITION.

The competition comes at its first edition in 2017 when the Festival delle Nazioni turns fifty. It will be carried out during two days of the Festival which takes place every year from the last week of august to the first week of september.

Art. 3 – WHO MAY APPLY

The competition is open to chamber music groups made of young musicians, born or resident in the EU, who hold a Conservatory degree or equivalent certificate.
The competition is open to music chamber groups playing in duo, trio, quartet and quintet. The duo for two pianos is not admitted.
Average age of the members of each group must not be over 32 years.
Only one piano is allowed for the performance.
In case of percussions, harp and other instruments these need to be supplied by the competing groups.

Art. 4 – SELECTIONS

The selections of the competition will take place in two stages:
First selection, public audition (2nd september 2017, 11,00 am – Chiesa di San Domenico, Città di Castello).
Chamber music groups will publicly perform the pieces indicated in their applicatons. The jury will be present.
The order of the performers will be defined by drawing.
Duration of the performance is approximately 20 minutes (under penalty of disqualification copies of the musical scores must be presented to the jury beforehand).
Second selection, public audition (3rd september 2017, 06,00 pm – Oratorio di San Crescentino, Morra – Città di Castello).
The groups who passed the first selection will finally perform publicly before the jury.
The order of the performers will be defined by drawing.
Duration of the performance must be of approximately 30 minutes; at competitors’ choice competitors can perform different pieces from the first stage.

Art. 5 – JURY

The jury is made of 5 members who are renowned music critics and it is chaired by Festival delle Nazioni art director.
The jury has the faculty to select times and parts of the performances, to shorten the duration of the performances and to request additional hearings. The judgement is unquestionable.
Art. 6 – PARTECIPATION FEE

Partecipation fee is 30,00 € for each member of the group to be paid at the moment of the application ( see art. 7 Application) as a confirmation of the competition.
Fees cannot be refunded.

Art. 7 – APPLICATION
Applicants should send their application through registered letter by 15th July 2017 (postmarked no later than this closing date) to the following address:

Applications must include:
– personal details of each member (form available on www.festivalnazioni.com);
– copy of Conservatory degree or its equialent or self-certification
– details and cv of the group ( form SCHEDA IDENTIFICATIVA DEL GRUPPO available on www.festivalnazioni.com)
– composition of the chamber music group (please indicate the types of instruments and the players)
– contacts of the groups
– programme
application must be accompanied by evidence of payment of 30,00 € fro each partecipant, as indicated in art. 6. Uncompleted applicatios will not be accepted.

Art. 8 – PRIZE
The winning group of the competition will be awarded with a 5.000,00 € prize.
Half the sum will be paid at the end of the award ceremony the other half will be compensated as a performance during the 2018 Festival edition.

The decision of the jury is definitive and unquestionable. Should that be the case the jury may award an ex-aequo prize or may not award any prize in case of non-deserving performances.

Art.9 – RECORDING
Any video or audio recording does not give any right to the performers who may not claim any financial request towards the organisation.

Art. 10 – PREVIOUS EDITIONS PARTECIPANTS
The chamber music groups (same members) who are not awarded with the prize may apply for the next editions of the competition.

Art. 11 – ACCEPTANCE OF THE RULES
Registered applications imply acceptance of the competition’s rules.
The organisation witholds the right of modifying the rules in case of need.
Any change of the rules will be notified to all those concerned.
The organisation is not responsable for any incident to people or things occuring during the festival or during the necessary travel to reach the seat of the competition.
